“AUTHORING”
The buzz this year and last seems to be having your own "word of the year." It's funny, but I have been doing this for quite some time now, so I consider myself a trendsetter. Setting a word of the year can be a powerful practice, providing a guiding light and focus for the months ahead. Rather than creating specific resolutions, choosing a word to embody your intentions for the year can offer flexibility and inspiration. It serves as a touchstone for decision-making, goal-setting, and personal growth, allowing you to align your actions and mindset with your chosen theme. Whether it's "gratitude," "resilience," or "balance," having a word of the year can help cultivate mindfulness, purpose, and direction in various aspects of life.
Personally, I have not been successful with resolutions. To me, resolutions are things we need to get rid of. I prefer to add the things that stir my soul. The start of a new year brings with it new challenges, goals, and endeavors. I like to have a word for the year to act as my compass in making year-long decisions.
This year, my word will be "Authoring". In its broader sense, Authoring refers to the creative process through which an individual brings forth original ideas, concepts, or works into existence. This encompasses traditional forms of writing, such as literature and academic texts, and the imaginative endeavors found in art, music, cooking, or health and wellness. At its core, authoring embodies envisioning and constructing a narrative or an artifact, where the creator—often regarded as an "author"—imprints their unique perspective and voice. In this context, Authoring is not merely about producing content; it expresses creativity, innovation, and the human experience, allowing individuals to share their insights and stories with the world. As I venture into new beginnings and challenges, I am excited to see how I can fill these empty pages. Happy 2025, and let's create together!
